Pinch valve technology,
design features and quality employed to manufacture Pinch valves range
from conventional design suppliers to those offering highly engineered
designs,
a comparison of features
among major manufacturers of pinch valves from India and around the globe
helps in the decision making process.
Major improvements
with continuous R & D in making rubber
sleeve resistance to abrasion, chemicals, temperature, Corrosion & high
pressure. Due to this Pinch vales are now suitable for most tough
applications & one of the reasons for increased usage is the
availability of gear operated pinch valve, chain operated pinch valve, pneumatic On/Off
pinch valve and throttling control pinch valves along with
normal manual operated pinch valves. Other improvements include the
automatic sensing
rubber sleeve wear / failure as well as double layered reinforcement
for extended rubber sleeve life.
Specialized constructs like having reinforced lugs on either side of the
sleeve also allows for operation on the suction side of a
pump and in vacuum conditions without collapse.
The initial purchase price of pinch valve is
just one portion of the total ownership cost of the valve. As abrasive and
corrosive media wear the rubber sleeve ( which is also called as pinch
valve liner, rubber muff, rubber tube or pinch valve hose) it must be
replaced. Elastomer quality, price, and frequency of pinch valve sleeve
replacement are a major part of maintenance & costing, which also includes
removal of damage rubber sleeve and reinstalling with a new one. The
downtime, repair, product loss, contamination, clean up, and other factors
per each sleeve replacement time. Accordingly, paying a bit more for
quality of fantastic reinforced rubber sleeves molded with actual virgin
polymer compound for simply avoiding the recurring maintenance cost.
Pinch
valves are full bore valves having designs suited to industrial and municipal
services in India and worldwide where abrasive, corrosive, clogging slurry,
sludge, liquid or bulk solids are processed. Pinch valves offer a
cost-effective alternative to other metal - metal ball, plug, gate, and
diaphragm valves that do not offer comparable mechanical advantage,
chemical resistance, effective shut-off, or 100% full flow like in case of
pinch valves.
Pinch valve users
should always
understand the process conditions to selecting the correct Pinch valve
rubber sleeve to obtain full value and life. When
problems with Pinch valves arise, It is only because of
elastomer failure as the rubber sleeve is stretched and stressed during
closure. This often results in the cutting of the rubber sleeve around the
pinch area, or incomplete closure resulting in high velocity wear and
shortened sleeve life. In some cases, users are simply unaware that
specialized rubber sleeves with good quality double reinforcement are required
for negative pressure / vacuum conditions and good life of sleeve or to
avoid pump damage from sleeve collapse on suction side.
